“I always wanted to give back to Swinburne and its students and becoming a mentor provided a great avenue for that. I was able to develop various skills such as empathy, coaching and leadership qualities. I enjoyed giving back and getting positive feedback from students on how my advice helped them in their degree of choice. It's a great meaningful way to give back to the Swinburne community and help shaping the next generation of emerging leaders.”

Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
Once students and alumni have registered their profiles, our system automatically recommends matches between mentors (alumni or industry) and mentees (students or alumni) based on the criteria and experience each have listed. Students or alumni then choose their own mentors and initiate a connection for a one on one 30-minute chat online with the option to choose on-going meetings, over the phone or in person*. And don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of resources to help it all run smoothly.
*Disclaimer: Due to safety guidelines, we recommend that all mentoring meetings take place virtually to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. If in-person meetings are necessary, please follow all relevant safety protocols and guidelines.
Who can be a mentor?
The program is open to all Swinburne alumni and industry professionals, and we’re looking for mentors from a diverse range of industries.
What am I expected to do?
Mentors are expected to provide 30 minutes of support and guidance. Mentors work with their mentee to determine what kind of support will be most useful. This can include specific feedback related to finding jobs, general career advice, information on higher studies, and personal encouragement.
